Press: NuStep Adds New Age-Friendly Features to T4

September 14, 2009

ANN ARBOR, MI - NuStep Inc. announced today that its core product, the T4 Recumbent Cross Trainer, has been updated with age-friendly features designed to enhance ease of use for older adult users.

Now a bright green, the adjustment levers and knobs on the T4 are more visible and thus easier to locate. In addition to the new color, other age-friendly features include larger, soft touch adjustment knobs with textured surfaces to help users who have a weakened grip due to arthritis or stroke.

Steve Hopkins, director of Wellness and Physical Health for the Evangelical Homes of Michigan, tested the updated T4 model with the residents at Brecon Village, a senior living community in Saline, Mich.  He reported that the older adult residents at Brecon Village were “raving” about the color changes and that the updated T4, “is getting used 3:1 compared to the standard one (T4) that is right next to it.”

Adding color to the adjustment levers and knobs has made it easier for users to locate them, said Hopkins, “especially for anyone with visual impairments.”  He explained that new T4 users use the color as a reference marker to know that something adjusts, which, Hopkins said, “also works wonderfully for someone with early-stage memory loss.  Even if they don’t remember all of the instructions, a memory loss resident recognizes that the color is there to adjust.”

NuStep Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Steve Sarns said, “We continue to focus on providing products and product improvements that meet the needs of our diverse customer base.” He added, “Gaining outcome-based feedback from valued customers such as Brecon Village confirmed our decision to implement this significant product improvement on the T4.”
